The Wayfarer

Hi! I’m Matt, and my curiosity to see what the world has to offer has led me on some amazing adventures in over 100 countries, as well as calling 4 of them home. I’ve mostly been a budget traveller (not cooking pasta in hostels everyday kinda budget, though), but I also think that on occasion you need some “spoil yourself” time, and I do love a good tour! I am always tight for time due to being a full-time aerospace engineer, but I try to use my holidays, overtime hours, public holidays, company changes and wages wisely to squeeze as much travelling in as possible! So, welcome to my travel blog!

I made this page for fellow curious travellers who may also tight on time and money, to share the information that I have gained and wish I knew before, or anyone with an interest in some of the fascinating places that I have been lucky enough to visit – from Latin American jungles to North Korean helicopter rides, from Turkish mountain villages to the Algerian Sahara, and many places in between!

When travelling, I sometimes wish that someone had told me something beforehand, as this can be the difference between wasting an entire day, getting stressed beyond belief or simply missing out! And this has got me very frustrated many times, especially with all of these tour agencies and social media overhyping and putting unrealistic expectations on everything. So, I got inspired to write about some experiences of mine, to help prepare anyone, set realistic expectations of these frankly bullshit mega-filtered posts on social media and what it’s actually like to travel there behind the scenes, and if I can help just one person then I’ll be genuinely happy.

Not only do I want to help with an upcoming itinerary, but to inspire someone to travel and see something new is also pretty incredible. I may get somewhat frustrated at many things out there which are not as they seem, and I love to rant (it’s a British coping mechanism I’m sure), but of course I will never discourage travel. If there is an opportunity for your curiosity then take it, you can make it happen. Amazingly, some friends of mine were even inspired by my frequent travel, desire to meet people from different backgrounds and quest for knowledge, and that’s what it’s all about – they have now seen things and met people that they never thought they would before. Noice. 🙂
